What Is Yoga?
Yoga is a way of living. Rather than physical exercise, yoga helps to promote a balance in physical, spiritual and mental well-being by combining breathing (Pranayama) and stretching the body into a variety of different postures (Asana). To be a true Yogi, is to be at peace with yourself in body, mind and soul. Yoga makes us feel rejuvenated and energized, keeping us focused on the present moment. It turn it bestows the power to control mind and body.
Hatha Yoga
'Ha' is Sanskrit for sun and 'tha' is moon. Hatha therefore is the bringing together of all existence into a wholeness and unity. Hatha Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning "union with God''. Similarly to Ashtanga, Hatha yoga starts with physical postures designed to strengthen the physical body and nervous system. The spine is strengthened and all internal organs and functions are enhanced. Once these postures are mastered, we can begin the practice of pranayama. Pranayama is the practice of regulating one's breathing. The mind is affected by our breathing and our breathing is affected by our mind.
